How Does Weather & Best Time Work in Nepal?

Last verified: 2025-06 · Asia

1The Quick Answer

🚨Warning

The best trekking seasons are October–November (post-monsoon, clear skies) and March–May (pre-monsoon, rhododendrons in bloom) — monsoon season from June to September makes trekking difficult.

2What You Need to Know

October and November offer the most reliably clear mountain views, stable weather, and firm trails — making it the peak season for Everest Base Camp, Annapurna Circuit, and Langtang. March to May brings warming temperatures, spectacular rhododendron forests, and slightly fewer crowds than autumn. The monsoon (June–September) brings heavy rain, leeches on jungle trails, frequent trail washouts and landslides, and thick cloud obscuring mountain views — experienced trekkers can still travel but conditions are genuinely harder. Winter (December–February) brings cold at altitude and possible snow on high passes but offers crystal-clear skies and almost no crowds at lower elevations.

3Practical Tips

Practical Tips

  1. 1Book flights and popular teahouse accommodation on the Everest and Annapurna routes months in advance for the October–November season — it is extremely busy.
  2. 2The Annapurna Circuit in October offers the best combination of weather, trail conditions, and mountain views of any trek in Nepal.
  3. 3If visiting in shoulder season (late November or early March), you will find significantly reduced crowds and prices with only marginally lower conditions.

Important Warning

The Thorong La Pass on the Annapurna Circuit (5,416m) can close without warning due to snowfall even in the best seasons — always check current conditions with your teahouse host.
